Dr. Jessica Petrusma, ND. is a compassionate and detail-oriented Naturopathic Doctor with eight years of postsecondary education. Originally from North Bay, Jessica moved to Hamilton and completed a HBSc. with a double major in Biology & Psychology and graduated summa cum laude at McMaster University. She worked as a teaching assistant, researcher and leadership developer during this time. She discovered naturopathic medicine in her third year of her undergrad by working at a local clinic. The profession focused on prevention, individualization and education; which she knew would be vital to her practice. Treatments are less invasive and often better at addressing the root cause of disease.
Shortly after graduating, Jessica had to advocate for certain blood work and testing to be done after being repeatedly told that her symptoms were just “stress related” given her studies. She discovered that she had Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. She began the journey to treat her condition naturally. The next two years further enhanced her beliefs as family members were diagnosed with other autoimmune conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Celiac Disease. She saw how diet changes and supplements made a world of a difference for her loved ones.
Jessica spent the next four years studying at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. She completed a one-year clinical internship at the largest naturopathic clinic in North America (RSNC) and at Brampton Civic Hospital. She successfully passed her licensing and board exams to become a registered ND with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. Dr. Petrusma then did further training and testing to obtain her prescribing license.
She moved with her husband, who is a Niagara Paramedic, to St. Catharines and worked in a clinic for 2 years prior to joining InspireHealth Niagara. Jessica has a love of being outdoors and by the water. When not practicing or researching medicine, you can find her hiking with her husband and daughter, trying new recipes, or crushing the competition at board games.
Dr. Jessica Petrusma works to maintain a practice that is evidence-based and integrative. She will consider all aspects of health; mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. You can expect her to gather a thorough health history, offer non-judgmental support and develop a unique treatment plan that helps you reach your goals.
